There was a lot of talk about a GOP civil war brought about by the schism caused by Trump’s candidacy.
That war appears to have been cancelled.
Instead it looks as though the civil war will happen in the Democratic party, brought on by this catastrophic loss. Already I see it starting here on DK, and it will explode on DU, provided DU ever comes back on line after being hacked by Trump supporters.
The lines are drawn.
It’s Bernie and his supporters fault. Somehow we weren’t loyal enough. It’s Millennials’ fault. It’s men’s fault (White, Black and Latino). It’s the DNC leadership’s fault. It the candidate’s fault. DWS’ fault. Kos’ fault.
Lot’s of cases to be made for blaming any and/or all the above, plus others I didn’t mention.
All I know is I no longer have any trust or faith in the leadership of the party or the “netroots”.
I don’t say this to pick a fight, but to state a simple fact.
Cheerleading to “fight on” rings hollow to my ears and my heart. Admonishment and invective do not move me, and harden my resentment and depression. Hell, we had a thread last night on people considering suicide in the face of this reality.
To some of us, it is 1933 and Hitler has just been elected Chancellor.
Now some will scream that my statement is hyperbole, yet these would be the same people who assured me that Trump could never win, and that now Trump and the GOP will be reined in by the realities of governance.
Those assurances also ring hollow.
I really would love to read some constructive comments/suggestions on how we can get beyond this, but I fear instead that plenty of people will be happy to continue leveling abuse on those they disagree with, which has worked SO well so far.
So, I see civil war.
Since we are now powerless to act against our new political masters, we will turn and savage each other.
